Apple AirPods vs Google PixelPods

Have you been wondering who makes better products, Apple or Google? If you have, then it’s time for… AirPods vs Google PixelPods.

One of the items high at the Apple rumor sites is the possible release of the next version of Airpods. With a wirelessly charging case, the upcoming Airpod is rumored to add more intelligent “Hey, Siri” features. It seems likely the new Airpods will be announced soon.

Though I am an early adopter for many of Apple’s mobile devices, I got onto it a bit later in the adoption cycle. The hesitation was more look-and-feel based rather than features or performance based. I really wanted to look at other people’s faces and feel comfortable about this piece of white stick sticking out. After I saw the people on both sides of treadmill wearing it quite comfortably and running at twice the speed I was, I decided to cost my wallet a good chunk of my car payment and bought a pair. I have been quite happy using it overall. The battery power and the ability to quickly charge is impressive. The ability to locate is using the “Where is my iPhone” app has come in quite handy in more than a few occasions.

As a dual platform user, I keep an Android device as well. After using a Samsung S7 for a few years, I ordered a Pixel 3 XL, taking advantage of their Black Friday deal of 2018. It is an impressive device, as good as iPhone X family and possibly better in certain features.

Before I go further, a quick disclaimer: I do not own a PixelPod device. However, the USB-C headset that comes with the phone has all the features of the PixelPod except for the, of course, Pod itself. The Pixel headset’s most impressive feature is the Google Assistant. In the wired headset, you need to press the middle button, ask what you want to ask and hear the answer. You can also make the notifications chime in. This is especially useful in a quiet environment like the library where you do not want the sounds but still be alerted with notifications coming up without constantly looking at the device.

So, readers, please tell me – should I get the PixelPods too and give you a detailed review ?

The AirPods have been around for a couple of years now and have become a familiar sight in that time though they still look a little odd, dangling from people’s ears, but they’ve undoubtedly been a success for Apple. The design is compact and understated, and the charging box is a very smart idea, tastefully executed.
